Guilt-Free Onion Pakoras

Pakoras are my all time favorite Indian snack food!!!

The soft, fluffy texture, and slightly spicy flavor can be enjoyed any time; with tea, lunch or dinner.

The downside is that THEY ARE FRIED! 🙁 Often in unhealthy refined oils.

But guess what? There is another way!

These pakoras are adapted from my original fried recipe; tweaked slightly to avoid the frying and yet retaining the same amazing taste and flavor.

Ingredients:

2 onions, chopped

5-6 heaped tbsp gram flour/ besan

1-2 green chillies, finely chopped

1/4 tsp red chilli powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

2 tsp extra virgin olive oil

fresh coriander, finely chopped.

salt to taste

1/4 cup water

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.  Add water in small batches. The mixture should be moist but not watery. If the mixture goes watery, add more gram flour to balance it out. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Scoop out the mixture onto the parchment paper, leaving some space to prevent them from sticking to each other.

Bake in the oven at 170C/340F for 30-35 minutes; make sure to turn them  half way through. Let them cool slightly before serving. Serve with your favorite hot sauce.
