Matcha Smoothie

Need an afternoon energy boost? Then try matcha smoothie!

Along with low caffeine concentration, matcha is packed with antioxidants, helps boost the metabolism for efficient fat burning, improves skin, increases energy levels and endurance, detoxifies the body, and is also a good source of vitamin C, selenium, zinc, and magnesium.

The first time I tried matcha was in a ready-made matcha coconut milk drink. While I still like that product, I find it is slightly too sweet. So when I heard about the EatCleanTea #SummerOfMatcha competition, I was up for the challenge of trying out different recipes with matcha. EatCleanTea comes in three flavors (original, mint, and ginger) and I chose to experiment with the ginger flavor as I love anything ginger.

Ingredients

2 ripe pears

1 cup kale

1/2 cup pineapple, fresh or frozen

1 cube (25 g)  frozen spinach (optional)

1/4 cup almond milk (or any milk of choice)

1 cup water

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp matcha ginger green tea powder

Method:

Chop the pineapple and pears. In an high speed blender, blend all the ingredients until smooth.

Tip: For best results, always blend the greens with the liquid first before adding in the fruit.

This smoothie is now my new go to energy source because it not only helps me with the afternoon slump but I get loads of nutrients and antioxidants too!
